Exploring the Healing Power of Reiki for Kids

Surprisingly, I’m often asked if Reiki is safe for children. Quite simply, the answer is – YES! Reiki treatments are safe and non-invasive.  Children today are dealing with far more anxiety, fears, peer pressures and educational pressures than we ever did when we were children – attributed mostly to social media and high-profile influencers. It is an unfathomable experience that many Millennials, Gen X and Boomers could ever relate to or imagine in their wildest dreams. Since Reiki works on all levels of the body: physical, mental, emotional and spiritual, the body will be able to use the energy to find balance in its own way. It will adjust to the moment and the needs of the individual, even for children. Therefore, benefiting the health and well-being of young ones just as much as adults.

In the whole scheme of things, Reiki can be used with children as a complementary healing modality throughout all stages of their lives. From the early days and months, through to puberty, adolescence and into adulthood. The calming practice of Reiki can benefit children of all ages, by promoting relaxation and confidence. Learning about and utilising Reiki at a young age promotes a healthy way of living – helping children make better choices and helping them to create and restore a sense of balance. In a nutshell, because children are far more susceptible to being open and less critical and judgemental, they tend to reap the healing benefits of Reiki far more than the average adult. The reason being, because adults tend to doubt, rationalise and question the process, at a far greater scale than children.

Here are some of the amazing benefits of Reiki for children:

  • Leads to better self-regulation and reduced hyperactivity
  • Boosts cognitive performance by enhancing focus and concentration
  • Leads to better quality and quantity of sleep
  • Reduces episodes of anxiety, stress and fear
  • Improves awareness of self which can boost self- esteem
  • Brings about a sense of inner balance
  • Reduces incidences of irritability and sadness
  • Makes them calmer by promoting a sense of inner peace
  • Promotes healing, growth and brings about pain relief

Additionally, Reiki is a wonderful alternative healing modality to use with children in order to ease aches and pains. Instinctively, as parents, we quite often touch or kiss our children better when they fall or injure themselves. When we use Reiki on our children, we speed up the healing process and boost their own natural healing abilities. I mean, how many times as a parent have you instinctively gone to use your hands to sooth and relieve their pain? Personally, it is the first thing I do when my girls are hurt. And now that I am attuned to Reiki, it is my first port of call before seeking conventional healing modalities. Unless of course, I am highly concerned for their safety, health and well-being. In which case, I immediately seek professional medical advice.

Furthermore, if you have been attuned to Reiki, Reiki is a special gift you can share with your children. You can teach them the five principles of Reiki and have them incorporate these into their lives:

  • Just for today, I will not worry.
  • Just for today, I will not be angry.
  • Just for today, I will be grateful.
  • Just for today, I will do my work honestly.
  • Just for today, I will be kind to every living thing.

In all honesty, as a result of my own personal experience using Reiki with my daughters and clients of a young age, I find that children love it! If possible, you should introduce and attune your children to Reiki. It will help them focus and find their own path in life. In addition, use Reiki at bedtime to help your children drift off to sleep. Reiki can also help balance your child’s mind, body and spirit – leading to a clearer more focussed approach to life at school and at home. When a child has an accident, they often cry because of the shock. Treat your child by placing one of your hands on their solar plexus and the other at the base of the spine. Just watch how powerful and effective this is in easing their pain.

My daughters have grown up with me using Reiki on them. I can honestly say it has done wonders to their overall mental and emotional state of being. I find they feel less anxious, calmer, more relaxed and more at ease with their sense of self. As their mother, this brings me great joy, comfort and relief. Given the unprecedented times children and young adults are living today, Reiki has been an absolute blessing.

Some advice, if you are seriously considering having your child receive Reiki – for peace of mind, make sure you are present while the treatment takes place. Personally, as a Reiki Master practitioner I never go ahead with a child Reiki treatment without at least one parent in the room. Why? Because it is my job to ensure each of my under age clients feel safe and secure. The only way to guarantee this, is by having mum or dad present so they can provide that extra reassurance that they are safe and in good hands.

As always, if you are highly concerned for your child’s health and well-being, please seek immediate professional medical advice.

Many blessings,
