Please remember that energy healing, including chakra work, is a complementary approach and should be used in conjunction with, not in place of, conventional care. Trust your intuition, explore with discernment, and take only what resonates as truth for you.

Over the past 19 years working with Reiki, I’ve witnessed how powerful chakra healing can be in restoring wellbeing, clarity, and spiritual connection. At the heart of energy healing lies an ancient understanding of the body’s energy centres, the chakras, which influence every layer of our being: physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual.

Reiki and the chakras are deeply interconnected, as both work with the flow of energy throughout the body. In a Reiki session, the practitioner acts as a channel for universal life force energy, allowing it to flow where it is most needed. This often helps to align, clear, or balance the chakras in the process. Each chakra corresponds to specific emotional and physical aspects of our wellbeing, and Reiki can gently bring awareness to where energy may be blocked, depleted, or overactive. Clients often report sensations or shifts in certain areas during a session, which can be linked to the chakra system. Over time, consistent Reiki practice helps restore balance to these energy centres, supporting the body’s natural healing abilities and promoting harmony across the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual levels.

When our chakras are balanced, we feel grounded, confident, open-hearted, expressive, intuitive, and connected to something greater. When blocked or imbalanced, we may experience disconnection, fatigue, or emotional overwhelm.

This simple guide offers a foundational look at the seven main chakras, their purpose, signs of imbalance, and practices to support their healing.

1. Root Chakra – Safety, Grounding, Survival

Located at the base of the spine, the root chakra is your energetic anchor. When balanced, it supports a sense of stability, safety, and presence. Imbalances may show up as anxiety, disconnection, or lower body issues.

Try: Stand barefoot on the earth and visualise roots grounding you.

Affirm: I am safe, supported, and grounded in the present moment.

2. Sacral Chakra – Creativity, Emotions, Pleasure

Just below the navel, the sacral chakra governs emotions, relationships, and pleasure. Balanced, it invites joy, intimacy, and creative flow. Imbalances may include emotional numbness, guilt, or reproductive issues.

Try: Gentle, flowing movements like dancing or hip circles.

Affirm: I allow creativity, joy, and pleasure to flow through me with ease.

3. Solar Plexus Chakra – Confidence, Power, Will

Situated in the upper abdomen, this chakra fuels personal power, motivation, and self-esteem. When in harmony, it empowers confidence and direction. Imbalances may cause digestive issues or lack of confidence.

Try: Deep belly breathing while visualising a golden sun at your core.

Affirm: I am confident, strong, and stand in my personal power.

4. Heart Chakra – Love, Compassion, Forgiveness

At the centre of the chest, the heart chakra bridges the physical and spiritual realms. It governs love in all forms — for self, others, and life itself. Imbalances can cause emotional heaviness or physical tension in the chest.

Try: Place hands on your heart and breathe deeply into a soft green light.

Affirm: I give and receive love freely. My heart is open and worthy of love.

5. Throat Chakra – Truth, Communication, Expression

Located at the throat, this chakra helps you speak your truth, express ideas, and listen with presence. When imbalanced, we may feel silenced, misunderstood, or experience tension in the neck and jaw.

Try: Chant or hum to activate your voice centre.

Affirm: I express my truth with clarity, confidence, and compassion.

6. Third Eye Chakra – Intuition, Insight, Inner Vision

Between the eyebrows, the third eye governs your inner wisdom, foresight, and spiritual insight. A balanced third eye brings mental clarity and trust in your intuition. Imbalances may show up as confusion or overthinking.

Try: Sit in silence, gently focus on the space between your brows, and invite insight.

Affirm: I trust my inner wisdom and see life with clarity and insight.

7. Crown Chakra – Spiritual Connection, Unity, Awareness

At the top of the head, the crown chakra connects you to the Divine and your higher self. It brings peace, purpose, and oneness. Imbalances can result in spiritual disconnection or lack of meaning.

Try: Visualise white or violet light flowing through the crown into your body.

Affirm: I am connected to divine wisdom and trust the guidance of the universe.

Your chakras are like an inner compass, guiding you toward wholeness and deeper self-awareness. By tuning into them with compassion and curiosity, you begin to shift your energy from fragmentation to flow, from heaviness to lightness. You don’t need to get it all “perfect.” Just begin. Start where you are. Your energy will meet you there. Reiki is a gentle yet powerful way to support this process, helping to realign and recharge each chakra so you can return to a state of balance, presence, and inner harmony.

Many blessings,
