Mother Mary is revered across the world, not only in the Christian faith but also among those who seek spiritual comfort and healing. For centuries, her image has been associated with purity, unconditional love, and the nurturing aspect of the Divine Feminine. Many people turn to her in times of need, seeking solace, protection, and healing for their physical, emotional, and spiritual wounds.
I grew up in a devout Catholic household with Colombian parents who held a deep reverence for Mother Mary. She was truly at the heart of their faith. From as far back as I can remember, their dedication to her was unwavering. They had a daily ritual of reciting the rosary every morning as soon as they woke and every night before bed—without fail. From my early years and continuing into my adult years, my parents have always reminded me, “Believe and have faith in La Virgen. Trust that she will guide and help to heal you. All you need to do is ask and keep your faith.” And so, my devotion, trust, and faith in Mother Mary has been everlasting.
So, what is it about Mother Mary that evokes such a profound sense of healing? To understand her healing power, we must explore her divine essence, her connection to the Divine Mother archetype, and the way she works through energy, compassion, and love to offer transformative healing to those who seek her aid.
The Essence of Mother Mary’s Healing Power
At the core of Mother Mary’s healing abilities lies her embodiment of pure, unconditional love. She is often depicted with open arms, her heart radiating light—a universal symbol of maternal compassion. This image reflects her role as a spiritual mother to all of humanity. She nurtures our spirits as a mother nurtures her child, gently guiding us toward healing by offering us unconditional acceptance and grace.
Her presence is subtle yet deeply profound. Many who connect with her energy feel a comforting warmth, a sense of being embraced by an invisible yet powerful force of love. This is no accident. Mother Mary’s healing power flows directly from the Divine Source, and she serves as a channel for this divine energy, allowing it to flow to those who call upon her.
Mother Mary as the Divine Feminine Healer
Mother Mary’s role as the embodiment of the Divine Feminine brings balance to a world often dominated by masculine energy. She represents the nurturing, receptive, and healing qualities of the feminine principle, which are essential for our well-being. As a healer, she embodies compassion, forgiveness, and the gentle strength that supports our journeys through life’s most difficult challenges.
Her connection to the Divine Feminine allows her to assist in healing not only physical ailments but also deep emotional traumas and spiritual wounds. In a world where many struggle with feelings of unworthiness or carry the scars of abandonment, Mother Mary’s loving energy offers reassurance. She teaches that we are always worthy of love and healing, no matter how broken we may feel.
Her healing abilities often work on an energetic level, helping to balance the chakras, particularly the heart chakra, which is the centre of love, compassion, and forgiveness. When we connect with Mother Mary, we allow her loving energy to flood our hearts, dissolving emotional pain, releasing past hurts, and fostering a deep sense of inner peace.
Miracles and Intercessions: A History of Healing
Throughout history, there have been countless accounts of miraculous healings attributed to Mother Mary. From Marian apparitions in Lourdes, Fatima, and Medjugorje (southwestern region of Bosnia and Herzegovina) to personal experiences of healing shared by those who pray to her. Undoubtedly, Mary has often been seen as an intercessor between humanity and the Divine.
These miracles are not just stories from the past; they continue to this day. Pilgrims visit sacred Marian sites seeking physical, emotional and spiritual healing. Many leave with not only healed bodies but also open and altered hearts and souls. The waters of Lourdes, for example, are believed to hold miraculous healing properties because of Mary’s appearance there.
Yet, Mother Mary’s healing abilities are not reserved for sacred sites. She is available to everyone, everywhere. Through prayer, meditation, or simply opening our hearts to her presence, we can invite her healing energy into our lives.
How to Connect with Mother Mary’s Healing Energy
You don’t need to visit a holy shrine to experience the healing power of Mother Mary. Her energy is omnipresent (present everywhere) and can be accessed through simple yet profound spiritual practices. Here are some ways to connect with her:
The Miraculous Medal
People can use the Miraculous Medal as a tangible way to invite Mary’s guidance and grace into their lives. Wearing it as a necklace, like I do, carrying it in your pocket, or keeping it close during prayer serves as a reminder of faith, protection, and the power of intercession. Personally, by wearing the Miraculous Medal I feel a deep sense of connection to Mary and am comforted by the idea that she is helping me find peace, strength and wisdom in times of need. The medal is a symbol of Mary’s promise to support those who turn to her with trust and devotion.
Prayer and Invocation
One of the most direct ways to connect with Mother Mary is through prayer. You can recite traditional prayers like the “Hail Mary” or speak to her in your own words, asking for her healing energy to flow through you. In moments of fear, doubt, or confusion, you can ask her to wrap you in her protective cloak. Trust that she will guide you gently toward the path that serves your highest good. When you pray, visualise her radiant light surrounding you, bathing you in unconditional love and peace.
Meditation and Visualisation
In a quiet space, sit in meditation and call upon Mother Mary. Visualise her as a loving figure, her heart glowing with divine light. Imagine this light enveloping you, bringing healing to any areas of your life that need it. You can also visualise this light expanding to embrace your loved ones, the world, or any situation that needs healing.
Working with Symbols
The Rose
A cherished symbol of Mary in Christian tradition, the rose represents Mary’s purity, love and beauty. Known as the “Mystical Rose,” Mary embodies the qualities of this beautiful flower—graceful, tender, and resilient. In addition, roses are often associated with the unfolding of divine mysteries and spiritual perfection, just like Mother Mary.
The Colour Blue
Blue symbolises calm, stability, and healing, qualities that are often attributed to Mother Mary. Artists throughout history have clothed Mary in blue to communicate her role as a loving, serene presence and protector, connecting deeply with her reputation as a compassionate mother figure who offers guidance and comfort. This colour has since become iconic in representations of Mary, reinforcing her association with serenity, loyalty, and the divine.
The Immaculate Heart
The Immaculate Heart highlights Mary’s deep empathy, purity, and spiritual strength. It’s a reminder of her role as a nurturing, maternal figure who offers comfort, guidance, and intercession on behalf of humanity.
Surround yourself with these symbols as reminders of her presence in your life. Place a rose on your altar, wear blue, or light a candle in her honour.
All in all, Mother Mary’s role as a healer extends beyond individual lives. Her mission is to heal humanity, guiding us toward greater compassion, unity, and love. In today’s world, where division, fear, and suffering seem prevalent, her healing presence offers a beacon of hope. She calls upon us to be compassionate toward ourselves and others, to open our hearts and embrace the power of forgiveness. Through her intercession, we are reminded that healing is not just an individual process but a collective one. By healing ourselves, we contribute to the healing of the world.
“In trial or difficulty, I have recourse to Mother Mary, whose glance alone is enough to dissipate every fear.”
– Saint Therese of Lisieux
